Tenancy Deposit Claims

If you have lived in rented accommodation since 6 April 2007 and have an assured shorthold tenancy agreement with your landlord, the law states that the tenancy deposit you are commonly asked to pay up front must be stored and protected in a government-backed tenancy deposit scheme (TDP)

In England and Wales deposits can be registered with the following:

• Deposit Protection Service
• MyDeposits
• Tenancy Deposit Scheme

Failure to store and protect the deposit correctly by the landlord, would entitle the tenant to make a claim for compensation of up to three times the amount of the original deposit.

CheckMyDeposit provides a service that allows tenants to check if their deposits were stored according to the law and potentially make a tenancy deposit claim for compensation.

The checking service is free and clients only pay fees if and when their claim is successful.
